Ban on plastic

KOHIMA: In continuation to State Government's notification dated 29.11.2018 on the "Policy for Restricting the Use of Plastics in Nagaland", the State Government has imposed a total ban on all single-use plastic in Nagaland. "Single-use plastics, often also referred to as disposable plastics (use-and-throw items), are commonly used for plastic packaging and include items intended to be used only once before they are thrown away or recycled. These include, among other items, carry bags, food packaging, bottles, straws, containers, cups and cutlery". Any individual, institution/commercial establishment (educational institutions, offices, hotels, shops, restaurants, religious institutions, industrial establishments, banquet halls etc.) shall abide the aforesaid total ban and any breach shall be liable for penalties, stated a DIPR release.

Seminar in Mokokchung

KOHIMA: A seminar on waste management organized by Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) and Green Team, Kohima was held at MMC conference hall, Mokokchung recently. LH Thangi Mannen, founding member, Green Team, delivered a power point presentation on waste management and implementation of Nagaland Integrated Waste management Policy 2019 during the seminar. A discourse on kitchen waste management/composting was presented from Pro– Rural, Dimapur, stated a DIPR release.

Office complex unveiled

KOHIMA: Advisor for Labour & Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and CAWD, Kazheto Kinimi inaugurated the Assistant Labour Commissioner and District Employment Exchange Office complex at Zion Hospital Junction, Purana Bazaar, Dimapur recently. Speaking at the inaugural programme, Kinimi termed the building as a much needed infrastructure which is not only an asset to the department but also a platform to serve the people. He said that with the increase of industrial activities, people are now beginning to realize the importance of the department and having the necessary infrastructure is a small step forward to face the challenges, stated a DIPR release.

Tree plantation drive

KOHIMA: Joining the nationwide movement for "Water Conservation" under the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, the district administration of Sanis along with St Paul School carried out a tree plantation drive along the roads of Sanis Town under the theme "Everyday Can be World Environment Day" on Friday. Students were encouraged not only to plant trees but to take responsibility for the care of one sapling each till it is matures. They were also encouraged to write their names on a tag and hang it on the bamboo fence around the saplings, stated a DIPR release.

Paper bag training

KOHIMA: A day-long paper bag making training programme was organized by 'CAN YOUTH' in collaboration with Mon district administration at the ADC office premises, Naginimora, Mon recently. The theme of the training was "Community Sensitisation on Harmful Effects of Plastic Use" where resource persons included Jenpu Rongmei, Chief Function ARY; Sentimongla Ozukum, life skill trainer, Lanchunglu Rongmei and skill development trainer. Paper bag training was imparted to the women folk in order to reduce the use of plastic and empower women in their livelihood. Around 200 women attended the training, stated a DIPR release.

Shaala Siddhi training

KOHIMA: A day-long training on 'Shaala Siddhi' for head teachers and teachers in-charge (elementary level) under Mon district was held at the Council Hall under the aegis Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan on Friday. Assistant Director of DSE Nellayapan, who was the resource person, stated that 'Shaala Siddhi' is a tool for improvement of schools in order to facilitate each school to provide consolidated self-evaluated report in key performance domain and core standards, including action for improvement. He adviced the trainees to be honest while submitting the reports. Limathung, senior SDEO and additional charge DEO, Mon gave the welcome address and took the introductory session. The programme was organized by District Mission Authority (SSA) Mon, stated a DIPR release.
