North East Executive Council of Janata Dal (U) urges for alternative land for medical lodge

Shillong, July 13: The North East Executive Council (NEEC) of Janata Dal (U) has suggested to the state governments of Meghalaya and Nagaland to find an alternative land for construction of a medical lodge at Madiangdiang near NEIGRIHMS.

Stating that the organisation had a discussion with the Khasi Student’s Union (KSU) which is opposing the allocation of land, the NEEC through its media cell said KSU conveyed “very clearly” that it was not opposed to the construction of a medical lodge.

“The KSU was only concerned with the particular land in question and we therefore strongly feel that the stand of KSU was reasonable,” the statement said. It may be mentioned that the governments of Meghalaya and Nagaland were set to lay the foundation for the Nagaland Medical Lodge. Following opposition from the KSU, the function was stopped on July 11.

The KSU had asked the Meghalaya Government to take back a plot of land near the NEIGRIHMS, which had been allotted to the Nagaland Government to build a state guest house for people who come for treatment at the hospital.

Meghalaya Urban Affairs department had allotted 2.27 acres of land in New Shillong Township near the institute to the Nagaland Government a few years ago.
