Nirav Modi and Vijay Mallya to share the same barack in Mumbai Central Prison

Guwahati: Nirav Modi and Vijay Mallya, both the fugitive economic offenders have possibilities of ending up living in the same cell. As per a recent report, they are to meet each other at Arthur Road Jail, Mumbai after extradition.

This has also been reported that if the diamond merchant Nirav Modi is extradited from the UK then he will be kept in barrack no. 12 of Mumbai Central Prison.

Although this is not known as to how much of truth lies in the news a kind of buzz is heard that both the fugitives will make a mini get together behind the bars in the Mumbai Central Jail.

The barrack no 12 in Mumbai Central Prison has two rooms and this has also been stated by the prison department that upon extradition, Nirav Modi is kept in one of two rooms in the barrack. The facilities to be provided to Modi if he is put behind the bars are also informed to the state Home Department.

An official of the Mumbai Central Prison says, “If lodged in the barrack, Modi is likely to get three square metres personal space, as per European norms, per person lodged in correction centres, and he will be provided a cotton mat, pillow, bed-sheet and blanket.”

Furthermore, there are additional facilities like permission to stay out of his cell for exercise and recreation which will last for about an hour. Additionally, there will be clean drinking water, toilet and washing facilities for him along with total medical facilities.

Notably, Nirav Modi was arrested on March 19 in London by Scotland Yard officers. It was only last month when Modi was denied bail by UK's Westminster Magistrate's Court. In fact, today on June 12 as well, Modi was denied a bail by the court stating he attempted to destroy evidence.
