SHILLONG: North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum has said that the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) under the leadership of the new CEM HS Shylla should not issue NOC pertaining to the construction of a road from Phlangdiloin to Ranikor if the construction is for a two-lane.

It may be mentioned that earlier last week, the newly elected MLA from Ranikor constituency Pius Marwein had met the KHADC CEM to discuss the need for a proper road from Phlangdiloin to Ranikor.

“I’m not against the construction or laying of black topping on the existing road from Phlangdiloin to Ranikor, however when it comes to a two lane road I strongly object and the CEM should also think twice before issuing an NOC,” Nongrum told The Sentinel.

He said that Uranium falls under the ‘union list’ and the public must not be mislead, under the cover of development.

“We don’t want to bypass the important issues which are affecting our people today and we don’t what the district council to turn into an agency body,” he said.

It may be reminded that the Ranikor MLA had also informed that KHADC CEM that if the road is constructed it will reduce the time of travel because at present it would take about 6-7 hours to reach Ranikor and with the road available it would only take a couple of hours.
