Silchar: Pradip Dutta Roy, Gauhati High Court advocate and founder-president of ACKHSA, has welcomed the ongoing CBI inquiry regarding the closure of the paper mills of Cachar and Nagaon. Addressing mediapersons at his Itkhola residence here on Sunday, he said that the inquiry would unearth many dark secrets and also unmask the real culprits. Cachar Paper Mill has been lying defunct since the later part of 2015. Management, union (INTUC), political leaders, contractors and suppliers are to be blamed for the present pathetic and precarious condition of the Mills. They have destroyed and damaged the Mills, he pointed out.

“Movements which were initiated were stopped and nipped in the bud. CBI inquiry was initiated in the year 2005. But the sudden transfer of the DSP of CBI who was heading the investigating the case, raises many question. It is shocking. The present situation of Cachar Paper Mill owes its reasons which are shrouded in mystery. Abdul Razzak Choudhury was asked to supply bamboos. But he did not supply the entire quantity. Management decided to increase the rate of bamboo in per metric ton. Union objected to it and questioned how the cost of bamboos could be so high. This was the same case with black wood which was purchased at that time,” Dutta Roy added to say.

“Huge quantities of black wood worth Rs.30 crore and 5 lakh have been damaged and destroyed. Coal, bamboo and papers have been destroyed and decayed. Rs.759 crore was the reserve capital i.e. profit amount of Cachar Paper Mill in 2006-07. Modernization of Cachar Paper Mill was also proposed by late Sontosh Mohan Dev, Heavy Industries minister. Rs.759 crore was spent. But how and where did it vanish, none knows. There is no account of it. Only 20 to 25 crores of rupees were spent on both the Mills. None knows what happened to the rest of the amount. 4 MLAs, 1 former cabinet minister and 1 state minister along with all other culprits will soon be unmasked,” said Dutta Roy.

Pradip Dutta Roy further said that he has full faith on ongoing CBI inquiry. He also said that Congress is trying to put the blame on BJP led Centre and state governments. “The due salary of the employees of the Mills will surely be cleared very soon and the Mills will also reopen”, said an optimistic Dutta Roy. He also expressed gratitude towards the people of Assam for voting in favour of BJP in the recently concluded panchayat polls. “It reflects their confidence and faith on the party. BJP won, AIUDF was nowhere to be seen, AGP also could not do well and Congress had to remain contented with second position. The people of Assam have less faith in other parties. Moreover, BJP is not gaining much from being associated with AGP,” he added to say.
