Priyanka Gandhi Starts Campaign for her Party in Uttar Pradesh

Guwahati: Congress General Secretary in-charge of East Uttar Pradesh, Priyanka Gandhi started her party's campaign from today for the upcoming Lok Sabha election by offering prayers at the Lette Hanuman temple near Sangam in Uttar Pradesh.

Priyanka will cover a distance of 100-km by boat in Ganga from Allahabad to Varanasi during her three-day visit. She will travel from Allahabad to Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi hopping from one temple to another.

Gandhi's Ganga cruise has been observed as an effort to navigate her party out of a nearly three-decade-long wilderness in the state.

Priyanka also recalled her memories associated with Swaraj Bhawan where her grandmother and former Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi was born. Recalling the memories, she tweeted, "Sitting in the courtyard of Swaraj Bhawan, I can see the room where my grandmother was born. While putting me to sleep at night, she used to tell stories of Joan of Arc. My grandmother used to say, become fearless and everything will be alright."

Gandhi, after arriving in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday said that political stagnation in the state had left the state's youth, women, farmers and labourers distressed and that it was her responsibility to change the politics in the state.

In an open letter, she said, "Due to stagnation in the politics of the state youths, women, farmers and labourers are worried. They want to share their pain and agony but in the noise of political arithmetic, their voice is completely absent from the policies of the state."

She further mentioned in the letter that political transformation in the state was not possible without listening to the voices of the people and sharing their pain. She also assured the people of the state that they will bring transformation in politics. She also stated that she had come to the doorstep of the people for a Sacha samwaad (genuine conversation).

She also said that they will move towards solving the problems adding that she would reach out to the people through various means of transportation, including waterways, buses, train and padayatra.

The open letter issued by Gandhi further reads as, "River Ganga is a symbol of truth and equality and is also a symbol of Ganga-Jamunitenhzeeb (cross culture). It does not differentiate among people. Gangaji is the lifeline of Uttar Pradesh and with her support I will reach you."
