Shillong, July 31: The Meghalaya Government on Tuesday appointed Raghvendra Awasthi to ‘temporarily’ hold the office Meghalaya Director General of Police (DGP). “Pending approval of the Union Public Service Commission and in the interest of public service, RA Awasthi, Director General, Civil Defence & Home Guards, Meghalaya, Shillong has been temporarily allowed to look after the office of DGP in the state in addition to his current duties.

This comes into effect from the date of retirement of SB Singh, DGP (Head of Police Force) on July 31, 2018,” a notification by S Kharlyngdoh, Commissioner and Secretary Home (Police) stated. Awasthi is a 1985 batch IPS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre.
