Ranji Trophy: Assam struggling to avoid defeat against Services

GUWAHATI: Assam facing daunting task to avoid defeat against Services in the Ranji Trophy tie in Delhi. Visitors scored 83-3 in their second innings at stumps on day III and they are still trailing by 102 runs.

In reply to Assam first innings total 211, Services today bowled out 396 in their second innings. Rajat Paliwal, who was remained unbeaten after scoring century yesterday, today took his score to 180 before got out. He hit 23 boundaries.

Among the Assam bowlers Jitumoni Kalita picked up three wickets while Ranjeet Mali, Mukhtar Hussain and Mrinmoy Dutta bagged two wickets each.

Assam made positive start in the second innings and the openers Rishav Das and Pallab Das added 71 runs on the first wicket partnership. But then there was dramatic twist in the innings as the side lot three wickets within one run. It was Pallab (27) who returned first. Jitumoni (0) was promoted in the batting order as a night watchman but the decision didn’t work. The batsman departed when the team’s total was 72. The other opener Rishav Das (41) to followed him on the same score.

At stumps two experience batsmen Sibsankar Roy and Gokul Sharma remained not out on 4 and 6 respectively.
