Saina Nehwal leaves match half played citing its poor quality, 3 matches postponed

Guwahati: Ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal refused to play in a court in Guwahati. The shuttler was in the city for participating in the 83^rd Senior National Badminton Championship. The badminton player did not even complete her match against her opponent and stopped playing the game midway as she is not satisfied playing in the court.

When being contacted while the player was leaving the court, Saina informed the media that the indoor stadium is good for the audiences to enjoy the matches but the quality of the court is not good enough to play a match. Hence, she decided to abort playing the match.

It could be seen that Saina kept on pointing the poor quality of the court to the organizers of the game. Although Saina is not playing in the court pointing at the poor quality, another top-ranked shuttler from India PV Sindhu played in the same court and entered into the quarter-finals.

BAI secretary (events) Omar Rashid, in keeping with the poor quality of the uneven court, postponed three pre-quarterfinal matches which involving Saina, Parupalli Kashyap and B Sai Praneeth, to the evening session after consulting the players.

Saina's husband and fellow player Parupalli Kashyap said, "The wooden planks came out at a couple of places after Sindhu played her match. So they are now going to fix it. We will come back in the evening to play our pre-quarterfinal matches."
