Saint Sankardev’s 570th birth anniversary celebration gets underway in Batadrava

Batadrava, Sept 19: The three-day long celebration of Saint Sankardev’s 570th birth anniversary at his birth place Batadrava in Nagaon district formally got underway on Tuesday. The celebration, which is called ‘Guru Jayanti’ in Batadrava, began with taal kubuwa followed by Manjira Naam, Aaisokolor Naam and khol prasang. A State-level Borgeet competition was held where around 50 contestants from various parts of the State participated. The inaugural ceremony of the competition was attended by Devananda Devgoswami, president of Batadrava Than reception committee, Brajen Kakati and other executives of the committee.

On Wednesday, after the common naam prasanga, a cultural procession will be taken out which will be flagged of by Bhogeswar Borah, executive president of Batadrava Than reception committee. In the evening, total 570 earthen lamps will be lit. A bhaona titled Nrisingha Yatra will be performed by the artistes of Salaguri Xatra, Batadrava.

On Thursday, after the morning prayers, a religious meeting will be held under the presidentship of Devananda Devgoswami. The meeting will be graced by State Water Resources Minister Keshab Mahanta, State BJP president Ranjit Dass and other dignitaries.
