Seven arrested for attack on Meghalaya Public Service Commission

SHILLONG, July 22: Seven persons have been picked up for their alleged involvement in the recent petrol bomb attack on the office of the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC). The accused persons were picked up by the police from Nongmensong area on Saturday. A vehicle suspected to be used for committing the arson was also seized.

It may be mentioned here that two unidentified persons went to the office of the MPSC and lobbed a petrol bomb in the room of the Commission’s Secretary WAB Booth damaging important documents, computers etc on July 10.

Following the FIR lodged by the Commission, the state police have also constituted a special investigating team (SIT) headed by Superintendent of Police (City) S Rynjah to probe into the incident.

Police also examined the CCTV footage received from one of the locations near the MPSC building which captured two unidentified persons while they were running after coming out of the building.

However, sources informed that the accused persons have confessed that they were paid for committing the arson attack on the office of the MPSC.

When contacting, SP (City) S Rynjah admitted that the police have picked up some persons but refused to divulge any further details. “I cannot say anything right now because we still have to do a lot of investigation into the matter,” he said.
