Skill development training for rural youths on floriculture in Jorhat

JORHAT: The Extension Education Institute for North Eastern Region (EEI-NE) at AAU Jorhat kicked off a month-long skill development training programme on floriculture which was inaugurated by Dr. Jayanta Deka, the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, in presence of Dr. Pradip Neog, Director of Extension Education Institute-North Eastern Region, Government of India, Dr Madhumita Choudhury Talukdar, Head of the Department of Horticulture, and Dr Sajib Baruah, programme coordinator on Sunday.

“In earlier times flowers were used only for religious purposes but nowadays flowers are used for all purposes,” Dr. Jayanta Deka, the Dean of Faculty of Agriculture who was the chief guest of the programme. He said that floriculture business was flourishing. A total of 200 rural youths will part in the month-long training programme on floriculture. In the opening session how to avail financial assistance from financial institutions or under Central or State government schemes was discussed, said Dr. Sajib Baruah, the programme co-coordinator for the month-long programme. Dr Madhumita Talukdar, Head of the Horticulture department, differentiated between the flowers and discussed about the rate variation of various flowers that last from season to season.
