Steps were taken by Facebook to fight fake news and misinformation

Facebook is a very popular medium among the masses. Mostly it is used to communicate with friends and family. People also use it for some official reasons. But some people also have some evil intentions which can ruin someone's life. Nowadays the fake news and misinformation are used to defame some powerful persons, political parties. It is giving benefits to some people who have some evil intentions.

Facebook has made some ways to prevent those bad posts. They have planned to work on these three areas like-

The users should discuss with others about each and every post. They should decide if it is worth sharing or not. Facebook has also involved a third party which will go through each and postsandinvestigates their source and timings. Most of the cases the dates of those facts are irrelevant. Other posts do not have any kind of guts to share their source and they use click bait. So avoiding those posts are very important. Fact checkers are also available which extracts the metadata from the news and examines them thoroughly. Just don’t click on those post which has any kind bad abusive headlines or thumbnail. Just report those pages or posts or share the post and create awareness among the masses.

The fact-checking routines of Facebook have some limitations which are-

o Facebook can’t provide fact checkers to all the countries

o The journalism style and press freedom varies with places

o All the fact checking routine does not have the capabilities to go through each and every post and verify their metadata. The protocols are not that strong enough to encounter each and abusive contents

o In some cases, few journalists publish some fake news with a question mark, as it is not real but it spreads very badly among the masses

Facebook is just a medium to communicate and gain knowledge about the current affairs, but some people are misusing it. To maintain the decorum Facebook has already started working on the loopholes of this kind of news. Different organization is funding to defame different people. But Facebook is actively working upon them with the help of fact-checking. That application verifies the source and data of all the evil posts and removes it from the internet. We should be aware of that. We should stop sharing those evil post or even think twice before clicking upon those bad abusive thumbnails.
