‘Students should be allowed to pursue own dreams’- Hamletson Dohling

Shillong: Students should be allowed to pursue their own dreams and passion and not to be coerced by parents in any academic pursuits, felt the State Minister of Information and technology minister Hamletson Dohling on Monday. He was speaking at a function to felicitate the merritorosus students of class ten and 12thby handing over to them their lap tops.

In his speech, the Minister said that it is a proud moment for parents to see that their children have excelled in the academic pursuit of merit while adding that it is also a proud moment for the Government to acknowledge the efforts of the young boys and girls in facing the challenges of this competitive world. He said, “ parents should be the strong support system for their children and not pressurise their children into doing something they are not interested and passionate about but rather allow and support them in pursuit of their dreams.”. The Minister called upon the students to ride upon their accomplishments and continue to strive forward in pursuit of their dreams with the same dedication and commitment so that they can be valuable citizens of the State and the country.

The Minister also said that technology is just a tool for the students to advance in their studies and called upon the awardees to shape their own design so that they can be profitable to the State and the economy. He also informed about the IT-related interventions that the Government has taken to enhance and support the students who desire to pursue their dreams in different fields.

In his words of encouragement to the awardees, Commissioner and Secretary IT department M R Synrem said that one should not rest on the laurels but should continue to work hard. He called upon each and every student to strive towards excellence so that they can be great assets to the state and the country as a whole.
