‘Swachh Sundor Silchar’ Launched in Silchar

Silchar: In a bid to make Silchar a clean, garbage-free and pollution-free town, the district administration of Cachar led by Laya Madduri along with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Cachar, Silchar Municipal Board (SMB) and other departments are keen to take concrete measures related to Solid and Liquid Resource Management (SLRM). District Administration is actively working with the foremost expert on SLRM C Srinivasan to evolve a sustainable and employment intensive plan for waste management of Silchar. It needs to be however emphasized that citizen’s active participation, involvement and feedback would be the most crucial aspect of the entire project.

“Let’s resolve to make Silchar ‘Swachh and Sundor’. People should come forward for making it a garbage-free town,” said Laya Madduri, at a launch ceremony held at Gandhi Bhawan on Sunday. She urged upon all stakeholders, members of NGOs, organizations, establishments to actively participate in it. A pilot project will be carried out in which families, residents of 4 wards will be taken into account. This pilot project include collecting solid and liquid wastes. General awareness among the masses through miking, using of banners and posters will be carried out”, said Laya Madduri.

N N Thakur, chairperson of SMB, delineated the purpose of this project and threw light on its importance and necessity. “Though it was launched a couple of years back, it will produce results since there are more facilities available now,” said N N Thakur. MP Dr. Rajdeep Roy said, “23 cities of this country which are now garbage-free were full of garbage. These cities deserve special mention. SLRM deserves special mention here. We have to think about the sustenance of natural resources.” Forest minister Parimal Suklabaidya appreciated the efforts of the district administration and Silchar Municipal Board.
