Time for JHPC report on PRC insufficient: All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union

Itanagar: The January 2019 deadline given to the Joint High Power Committee (JHPC) to submit its report on the Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) issue is not sufficient, observed All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU).

The apex students’ body of the state which convened a meeting here on Sunday on the issue with all the students unions and community based students’ unions of the affected districts of Changlang, Namsai and Lohit is of the opinion that proper documentation, area visits and mechanism need to be adopted before completing the report.

“There should be proper time frame for thorough study of all the aspects of the issue so as the concerns of all the stakeholders are duly addressed. Many other important issues are yet to be decided and finalized,” the union in a statement said.

The meeting also expressed resentments against the unilateral announcement for granting of PRCs to six non Arunachalee communities living in Namsai and Changlang districts and to the Gorkhas living in Vijaynagar.

The meeting condemned the recent statements of Chief Minister Pema Khandu and deputy chief minister Chowna Mein undermining the authority of the JHPC.

It is pertinent to mention here that the recent statements made by Khandu and Mein that the government was considering issuing PRCs to six non-Arunachalee communities living in Namsai and Changlang districts of the state has evoked strong resentment from various organisations in the state.
