TJM School celebrates Thomas Jones Day

Shillong, June 23: To celebrate Thomas Jones Day 2018, the Thomas Jones Memorial School in Lumparing conducted a “Discussion on handicraft, traditional food items, environment and herbal medicines together with inauguration of the Silver Jubilee of the School (1994-2019)”. The meeting was chaired by T Kharkongor the principal of the school and was attended by more than 150 participants comprising of parents, mothers, few community leaders, well-wishers and special invitees including teacher and student representatives from the Seng Khasi UP School, Nepali UP School, and Presbyterian UP School – all from the Lumparing area. Rev Dr OL Snaitang from the Church of God raised the curtains for the silver jubilee celebrations of the school together with a special prayer commemorating the sacrificial contribution of Thomas Jones to education. Helen Giri of La-Riti highlighted the significance of crafting and other skills for traditional livelihood and academic pursuits of students and local youth. Traditional medicine practitioner Edison Lyngdoh Mawphlang highlighted the importance of cleanliness and good hygiene as a contributing factor to good health.
