Two arrested on charges of robbery, criminal intimidation

SHILLONG, May 19: The Meghalaya Police on Friday arrested two persons, identified as Tiburson Basaringaid (23) and Sharkin Kharkylliang in connection with robbery and criminal intimidation. On the same day, one Franklin Shyrkon of Nongstoin Tiehsaw village (WKH) submitted a complaint to DGP, Meghalaya against police SI Goera T Sangma for alleged torture and falsely implicating Jeremiah Shyrkon (brother of the complainant), of raping a minor girl which reportedly took place on April 19 this year.

The complainant alleged that Jeremiah Shyrkon was illegally detained without any case being registered and that his family members were not allowed to meet him during his detention. The complainant demanded strong action against the concerned police officer.

Meanwhile, on 17 May, the police recovered the dead body of a newborn baby boy at Khliehtyrshi village (WJH). The body was sent to Civil Hospital, Jowai for post mortem examination.

In another case, around 1.30 pm on May 17, one John A Thabah (23) was electrocuted in a jungle at Lumbyrhing village. Necessary formalities have been observed.

On the same day, in another incident one B Kharmujai, Headman of Mawlai Mawdatbaki lodged a complaint that on May 17 around 5.30 am, he was informed by Benardis Lyngdoh Lyngkhoi of Mawlai Mawdatbaki Pata, Shillong that her son Fortune Lyngdoh (20) is in the habit of taking intoxicant substances. In this connection, the locality elders conducted a search in her residence and found one small container containing 0.37 grams of suspected drugs. Later, they handed over Fortune Lyngdoh to the police who arrested him.
