Two-day recitation workshop organized by Sangeetam concludes in DHSK College, Dibrugarh

Dibrugarh: A two-day recitation workshop, organized by Sangeetam, was held in DHSK College on July 5 and July 6. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Nazrana Ahmed, member of the governing body of DHSK Law College and Dr RKB Law College and deputy chairperson of the Assam Tea Planters’ Association (ATPA).

Resource person for the event was Shanti Chaya Saikia from Jorhat who has around five books based on learning pedagogy to his credit. The inaugural event was presided over by Sangeetam’s president, Anjali Phukan. Chief guest for the event was the Principal of DHSK College, Sashi Saikia. Chief advisor of Sangeetam, Ikbal Ahmed also attended the event.

Dr Nazrana Ahmed spoke on the essence of recitation, giving references of Yeats, Shakespeare, Eliot and Wordsworth in her speech. Saikia appreciated the organizers for holding an event which established a connection of the young students with recitation, and for inviting resource persons to teach the nitty-gritty of recitation. Shanti Saikia touched upon the nuances of recitation like modulation, use of punctuation and understanding the essence of the poem before reciting it out. Guests and dignitaries were welcomed by Sangeetam’s secretary Maiyatree Barooah Bhowmick.

Earlier, all members sang the theme song of Sangeetam in chorus. On July 7, at the Lekchand Kanoi Auditorium of Kanoi College, an art competition was held in four groups based on different themes. Around 90 students participated. Members of Sangeetam, Rita Thakur, Atreyee Baroowa, Trishna Dowerah, Pankhi Saikia, Anita Banerjee, Mohona Bhowmick and Bitupan Kalita, among others, also attended the event.
