ULFA-I Cadre Surrenders before Golaghat Police

Golaghat: An ULFA-I cadre surrendered before the Golaghat police on Saturday.

As per a police report, the cadre identified as Numal Sara alias Simanta Asom was engaged in all kind of camp duties in Myanmar for the past 8 years.

Speaking to the media, SP Golaghat informed that Simanta Asom had joined the outlawed faction ULFA-I in the year 2011 and underwent training in Myanmar.

Through the police interrogation, it has also come to light that there few more cadres of ULFA-I who are willing to surrender before the police.

It is to be noted that Simanta Asom hails from Nakkati area of Dergaon under Golaghat district.

Media reports also claimed that the ULFA (I) rebels are in disarray and disillusioned. The number of militants so far surrendering before security forces in Tinsukia district during the past one month has raised to 10. Monikanta Sonowal (21) alias Adarsha Asom of Bormaithong in Tinsukia district who fled a Myanmar camp surrendered before Margherita police.

During a press meet addressed by Ashif Ahmed ASP (HQ), Sonowal was produced before media persons. During interaction with media persons, Sonowal told that due to the intensified operation by the Myanmar Army, the rebels have been changing their camps often and whoever is getting an opportunity, is trying to flee Myanmar and surrender. Sonowal belonged to ordinary cadre and joined the outfit in 2016.

Earlier in the month of March, as many as six cadres of rebel militant outfit United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) on Tuesday has surrendered before police in Tinsukia district ahead of the Lok Sabha Election 2019.

As per police report, the cadres were identified as Barun Asom, Sourav Asom, Utpal Asom, Bosonto Asom, Ninja Asom, Mazid Moran and Shekharjyoti Asom.

The cadres surrendered one AK-56 rifle, five rounds of live cartridges, three MQ along with 11 magazines, two HK-32 rifles (folding) along with eight magazines, 11 grenades and some amount of explosives before the newly transferred Tinsukia District Superintendent of Police Shiladitya Chetia.
