Uplift of Khasi Patriotic Home demanded

SHILLONG, July 17: The Sordar of Nongkhlaw, PM Syiemlieh on the 183 death anniversary of U Tirot Sing Syiem, Syiem of Hima Nongkhlaw handed over a memorandum to the local MLA and Minister of Tourism government of Meghalaya for the uplift of the Khasi Patriotic Home Nongkhlaw.

The memorandum was handed over to the Minister Metbah Lyngdoh at a function held at Nongkhlaw for the inauguration of the Tirot Sing Memorial Playground on Tuesday.

Speaking at the occasion, the Sordar said, “The Khasi Patriotic Home still needs a lot of uplift and one of those is to build another floor and the other is the much needed fencing around the compound.”

Syiemlieh also urged the Minister to request the government to provide better roads in the area and to lay black topping form the PWD road till the Tirot Sing cave which is a tourist destination.

He also said that there is a need to beatify the entire surrounding of the Tirot Sing cave and urged the Minister for his assistance.

Later, in this speech the Minister assured that all the demands placed in the memorandum will be examined by the government and necessary action will be taken on them.

The Minister while speaking to reporters after the function informed that a Tirot Sing Indigenous Knowledge and Cultural Centre will soon be constructed at Nongkhlaw.

When asked, he said, “We have already floated a tender for the construction of the Centre and very soon the work will start in constructing the centre.”

He informed that the construction of the centre will cost around Rs. 2.50 crore.
