KAZIRANGA: The water-bird census will be done at Kaziranga National Park (KNP) in four lakes under Sohola, Agaratali, Kohora and Bagori ranges of the KNP. Fifteen groups have been formed to conduct the census. Apart from authorities of the World Heritage Park, the groups include members of World Nature Forum (WNF), Aaranyak, Wild Life Staff of India and Corbett Foundation.

On Thursday, the training started with a briefing among 35 students and volunteers. This is for the first time the authorities will do water-bird census in KNP. “All the enumerators are bird watchers, we have provided a data sheet along with binoculars and other modern equipment for the census. As KNP has about 92 permanent water bodies, over 250 seasonal water bodies, this exercise estimation will be an important factor for KNP,” said officials of the park.
