“We are friends” says Sonia Gandhi about Mamata Banerjee

Guwahati: Wednesday was a day of mixed conflicts and support between TMC and Congress as different leaders of the Congress party showed different gestures towards TMC throughout the day in different parts of the country. While in Delhi, one could see the Congress president Rahul Gandhi giving an impromptu visit at TMC’s “Modi hatao desh bachao” dharna in Parliament and on the other hand, in West Bengal; Congress MP Adhir Chowdhury slammed TMC for the chit fund scams.

Before the TMC chief Mamata Banerjee gets to react on the Adhir Chowdhury allegations on the party beck in West Bengal, Sonia Gandhi tried to patch up the things by saying that Mamata Banerjee is friends of her. A tactful Sonia, by uttering these words, made sure that Banerjee says no bitter words about the Congress party. However, the TMC Chief has clearly asked AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal to win all seven seats in Delhi and retain Delhi in his hands. Banerjee said this to Kejriwal at the Jantar Mantar rally which indicates her disappointment and bitter turn in the relation between Congress and TMC.

However, the end of the day showed another twist in the story as both the party chiefs, Banerjee and Rahul could be seen joining the opposition strategy meeting at NCP chief Sharad Pawar’s residence.

In the parliament, after Choudhury put allegations on the TMC, Banerjee was about to answer back right when Sonia ran into her in Parliament. It was only then when Sonia realized that Banerjee was sitting with her party MPs. Sonia Gandhi then retraced her steps. The two, later spoke briefly which could be seen as less courteous than their earlier conversations in Parliament.

Sonia later walked away, saying: “We are accusing each other…but we are friends.”

Banerjee does not share the same vibes with Rahul Gandhi as she shares with his mother Sonia Gandhi. Banerjee a young minister in Rajiv Gandhi’s Cabinet then.
