50 Para-Athletes from Arunachal Set to Compete in Northeast Para Games

GUWAHATI: The first North East Para Games, 2024, will begin in Guwahati, Assam, on Wednesday, featuring fifty para-athletes from Arunachal Pradesh. Guwahati will host the first North East Para Games in 2024 from November 27 to 29.

Arunachal will compete in para-badminton (14), para-athletics (27), para-boccia (5), para-swimming (3), and para-table tennis (1). Both men and women para-athletes will have the opportunity to compete in a variety of events across these disciplines as per their level of disabilities.

The athletes, accompanied by their personal escorts, coaches, managers, and officials, were scheduled to depart for Assam on Wednesday night.

The para-athletics include 100M, 200M, 400M, and 1500M races (men and women); shot put and discus throw (men and women); and long jump, while the para swimming includes 50M and 100M freestyle, 50M and 100M backstroke, 50M and 100M breaststroke, 100M butterfly, and 4x100m freestyle relay.

“The prestigious event will serve as a landmark occasion in the history of Paralympic sports in the region, celebrating the spirit of inclusion, empowerment, performances, and Para athletic excellence,” the association said in the release.
