BORDUMSA: The only drug de-addiction centre of Arunachal's Changlang District has successfully treated 90 inmates so far in nine batches for substance addictions and discharged them with counselling to begin their life afresh in meaningful manners. The persons particularly youths with habitual substance abuse from across Changlang District are being treated at the rehabilitation centre run by the 'RK Mossang Memorial Society'.

''We have ceremonially discharged 41 youths from the Bordumsa Drug De-Addiction Centre on Tuesday afternoon in the august presence of Changlang DC -- Dr Devansh Yadav, Chairman of the 'RK Mossang Memorial Society' -- Komoli Mossang, Nampong ZPM Deeptu Mungray, and Changlang District Sports Officer Noah Mongku,'' informed Arup Kumar Choudhury the Secretary of the Society.

Addressing the inmates during the discharge ceremony on Tuesday, the Changlang DC lauded the efforts of the ''corrected'' inmates for their bold decision to undergo the reform procedure at the rehab centre. He also urged them to build a strong determination so that they do not relapse to their earlier condition. ''We have opened up ample sports avenues and infrastructure wherein you can spend times sporting and developing your physique beside nurturing your mental strength,'' suggested Dr Yadav.

Society Chairman Komoli Mossang also urged the outgoing and corrected youths not to be tempted again towards substance addiction, adding that ''it is initially tougher for three to six months to resist". The society, parents, relatives and friends' circle should also motivate the reformed youths and provide them a congenial atmosphere so that life after rehab becomes beautiful and interesting to them.

Bordumsa MLA Somlung Mossang who had inaugurated the rehab centre on October 17, 2020, in his telephonic conversations on Tuesday evening, also expressed great satisfaction at the performance of the management authority of the rehab centre. He lauded them for dedicating their service to mankind by reforming and correcting the substance addicted youths of the society.

''You have plenty of tomorrows to compensate for the wrongs committed yesterday but what is important right now is to take bold decision setting life's goals positively ahead,'' said the legislator who had extended Rs 7 Lakh from the MLA LAD fund for the smooth management of the rehab centre.

Congratulating all the out-going batch and welcoming the new batches from across the district, the MLA in his message to the rehab management said that ''the path to recovery is not a sprint, it is rather an endurance race with so many hurdles to overcome. One must be prepared to face multiple challenges associated with the post rehab environment.'' However, it is pertinent to add here that the rehab centre equipped with only 10 beds needs to be upgraded as the number of the habitual offenders is quite large in Changlang district. A toll-free number of the rehab centre will help the needy and the affected.
