APPSC Scam: Call for Bandh in Arunachal Led to Arrest of 21 People & 10 Receive Notice from Court

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) paper leak scam lead to call for several ‘illegal’ bandhs from various organizations in Arunachal Pradesh. Meanwhile, In connection with the bandh call and violent occurrences, 21 people have been arrested, including 13 men and 8 women. In addition, 10 people (5 men and 5 women) have joined the inquiry after receiving notices under Section 41A of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).

According to a report, mobile phones have been seized from the arrested people to use them as evidence and even social media accounts have been taken into consideration as local police suspect they may mislead public and it will be examined further.

Meanwhile, the detention of activist Sol Dodum, Nemi Taba, and 34 other people has been increased from 12 to 30 days. The decision was taken in response to a request from the Itanagar Capital Region District Administration, which expressed worries about public order and the supply of essential services in the area.

On May 8, 2023, the District Magistrate of Capital, Itanagar, issued an Order of custody (No. DM/ICC/APUAPA/01/2023-3) under the provisions of the Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, initially directing the custody of Sol Dodum for a term of 12 days.

However, Itanagar DC talo Potom said that the situation is still critical in Arunachal Pradesh as the district administration receiving threats and bandh calls from a few groups regarding the APPSC question paper leak.

Furthermore, The Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC) lashes out at the state government for harassing detained people and accusing these protesters were arrested without any valid reason.

However, throughout the bandh, the East Kameng Police, in collaboration with magistrates, maintained a robust presence to prevent adverse incidents and property destruction. Despite their efforts, various incidents occurred during the bandh call, causing the district administration to file multiple FIRs.
