ITANAGAR: Continuing their peaceful dharna against Chief Minister Pema Khandu, agitators from Arunachal Against Corruption (AAC) shaved off their hair at the dharna site as a mark of their protest on Sunday.

Speaking to the media, the organization's president, Tarh Tahar said, "Despite our week-long protest, even submission of representation to the Governor is not getting any response to our demands. We are not against any individuals but against the misappropriation of public funds worth crores of rupees under Chief Minister Pema Khandu. So, as a mark of protest our members have shaved off their hair."

He said that if the authority remains silent, the AAC will move to the national capital Delhi to continue their protest. He also refuted the allegation that a political motive is behind the protest.

The AAC is demanding a CBI inquiry against Chief Minister Pema Khandu for alleged corruption under Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojana (SGRY), power scam under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana, fund mismanagement in Panchayati Raj system, Department of Mining & Minerals scam, gross misuse of CAMPA fund, hydro power scam and others.

The AAC also alleged that the Gauhati High Court's Itanagar Permanent Bench has already disposed of the PIL (No. 13/2019) filed against the Arunachal Pradesh Mineral Development and Trading Corporation Ltd, Itanagar for misappropriation of public funds and directed the authority to take appropriate action against those involved. But the present Government is yet to execute the direction of the High Court.

Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner of the Capital Region granted permission to the AAC to hold a peaceful dharna from July 23 to July 29, but the AAC has extended its protest to the Tennis Court.
