NAMSAI: A sudden rise in dengue cases has been reported in the Chongkham block of Arunachal Pradesh's Namsai district, an official said. The rise in dengue cases has been detected following daily surveillance and monitoring reports from the health facilities across the district, the official said.

In view of the rising positive cases, the Namsai district administration has declared Chongkham block as a 'Dengue Outbreak block' to contain further spread of the disease, Namsai deputy commissioner CR Khampa said in a public advisory.

As per the advisory, residents have been advised to clean the drainage system and fill up potholes to avoid water stagnation in the surrounding areas.

They have also been advised to get a blood test and consult a doctor immediately in case of fever, use mosquito repellent creams during outdoor activities, wear full-sleeved shirts and full pants and socks, and cover the infants with a mosquito net during sleep to prevent mosquito bites.

Dengue fever is caused by any of four closely related dengue viruses (DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, or DENV-4). These viruses are transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito. Dengue does not spread directly from person to person.

Earlier, expressing deep concern after 15 dengue cases were reported in Namsai, senior medical officer (SMO) Dr C.M. Thongmoung has called for urgent steps to check waterlogging and stop water stagnation, which is a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
