Arunachal Governor B D Mishra, CM Pema Khandu donate to Defence Service Welfare Fund
Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) Dr B D Mishra on Friday donated to the Defence Service Welfare Fund on the occasion of Armed Forces Flag Day, which was observed at Raj Bhawan here, along with rest of the country.
Exhorting the officers and staff of the Raj Bhavan to donate generously towards the noble cause, the governor said that Armed Forces Flag Day, which is being observed since the year 1949 give the people an opportunity to honour the martyrs who valiantly fought for the defence of the nation.
“It is also a day to remember and recognize the sacrifices and dedicated services rendered by them,” the Governor said.
“Armed Forces Flag Day also provides us an opportunity to discharge our obligation of looking after the disabled comrade-in-arms, vir naris and dependents of those who have made the supreme sacrifice for the country,” Dr Mishra said while addressing the occasion, a communiqué informed.
The Raj Bhavan Armed Forces Flag Day team collected contributions from state Home Minister Kumar Waii and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Bamang Felix besides many others on the day. The collection proceeds have been credited to the Armed Forces Fund, the communiqué added.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Friday visited the Changlang Battalion of Assam Rifles on the occasion of Armed Forces Flag Day.
Khandu accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein MLAs Phosum Khimhun (Changlang South), Tesam Pongte (Changlang North), Chief Secretary Satya Gopal and DGP S B K Singh interacted with troops.
While addressing the troops on the occasion, Khandu said that the historic day give the people an opportunity to re-affirm their solidarity with the Armed Forces and to recognize the service of ex-servicemen.
He also called upon the people to contribute voluntarily towards the Flag Day Fund which would be utilized for the rehabilitation of war widows, disabled soldiers and ex-servicemen.
The chief minister, deputy chief minister, MLAs, chief secretary also donated an amount of Rs 2,09,000 towards the Defence Service Welfare Fund, a defence communiqué informed.
