ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Governor KT Parnaik inaugurated the counselling hall and isolation room of the Charju De-Addiction Centre on Monday, an initiative by the Care Me Home Welfare Society (CMHWS). The governor was accompanied by CMHWS chairperson Sontung Lowang Bangsia and social activist Tai Tagak, who took the governor around the center and presented the NGO's ongoing activities.

Governor Parnaik, in his speech, highlighted the need to assist those suffering from addiction, calling it as a noble cause. He welcomed the initiatives of the CMHWS towards making society healthier and raised concern over the prevalence of high drug addiction among the youth, blaming it on the activities of drug peddlers. The governor called on the people to come together to fight against this growing problem, underlining the necessity for active community action.

Parnaik called on local leaders, including panchayat members and community elders, to take an active role in mentoring young people, advocating for early intervention and reformative measures to prevent drug dependency. He reassured the addicts that they can be cured and encouraged them to do physical work and learn skills as a type of rehabilitation.

The governor, in solidarity, presented a 'Team Arunachal' lapel pin to a reformed man who narrated his own tale of personal redemption and he was encouraged to inspire others to lead a drug-free life. Local MLA Wanglam Sawin, Tirap Deputy Commissioner Techu Aran, and other police officials attended the function.
