
ITANAGAR: Kaling Moyong has been selected as the new president of the Arunachal Pradesh BJP with no opposition. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal made the announcement today at the BJP office in Itanagar, where he oversaw the election.
Sonowal showed trust in Moyong’s leadership, saying it could help make the party stronger and more influential in the region. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu also congratulated Kaling Moyong on being chosen unanimously. He stressed that strong leadership at the local level is key to the party's success in the state.
Moyong succeeds Biyuram Wahge as the state BJP president. He served as the Pasighat East MLA from 2014 to 2024, although he lost the 2024 election to Tapi Darang of the NPP.
Moyong’s election is expected to boost the BJP’s presence in Arunachal Pradesh. People believe his leadership will help make the party stronger and focus on local problems.
Meanwhile, Lok Sabha MP Dilip Saikia has officially assumed the role of president of the BJP's Assam unit, succeeding Bhabesh Kalita. The announcement of his unopposed appointment was made at 12:30 pm on Friday.
Saikia was first elected to the Lok Sabha in 2019 and then re-elected in 2024 from the Darrang-Udalguri constituency.
He was the only person to submit his nomination for the state president role by Thursday evening, before the 7 PM deadline.
