ITANAGAR: An awareness programme on the implementation of the Arunachal Pradesh Solid Waste (Management & Handling) bye-laws 2023 was launched in Namsai district on Thursday. The campaign is aimed at educating residents about proper waste segregation, user fees for garbage collection, and promoting a cleaner and greener environment.
The first session covered ten colonies including ALC Line, Fire Brigade Colony, Admin Colony, Transport Colony, Teachers’ Colony, Medical Colony, Block Colony, WRD Colony, PWD Colony, and Buddha Mandir Backside.
Urban development assistant engineer Jumtum Potom, introduced the stakeholders on the objectives of the programme, while executive engineer Mosum Sema, who is also the member secretary of district urban development agency, presented a detailed PowerPoint on the importance of waste segregation and explained the structure of user fees for garbage collection.
Speaking on the occasion, deputy commissioner and DUDA Chairman, C R Khampa, urged the citizens to adopt responsible waste practices, plant trees, and contribute individually towards making Namsai clean and green. He also explained the purpose and use of user fees collected from households.
District programme officer Dr Keshab Sarmah, highlighted the health and environmental benefits of proper waste management and encouraged residents to keep their homes and surroundings clean.
The programme saw active participation from stakeholders of the listed colonies along with officers and staff from the urban development department.
The awareness drive will continue across different locations until May 21, 2025.
