ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Law Students' Union (ALSU) has submitted a five-point memorandum to Home Minister Bamang Felix over the massive fire incident that occurred at the Naharlagun daily market a week ago, leading to the loss of more than 700 shops and rendering many persons homeless.

Addressing the media at the press club here on Wednesday, ALSU vice president (protocol)-cum-issue chairman advocate Teli Naga informed that the fire incident at the daily market was one of the most unfortunate incidents where more than 700 shops were gutted down, that too when the fires station is just a few meters from the incident site.

He said that there must be a lacuna, and ALSU suspects that there must also be some conspiracy that needs to be unearthed. ALSU met Home Minister Bamang Felix and apprised him of the whole incident.

"ALSU demands immediate transfer of Superintendent of Police, Fire & Emergency Services, Itanagar, because, it was due to the lack of proper management and coordination among the firemen, under the supervision of the SP that the fire couldn't be controlled in time," he said.

Also, the Home Department should immediately suspend the fire personnel and contemplate disciplinary proceedings for dereliction of duty, institute a free and fair investigation in regard to the FIR lodged on October 26 last by ALSU.

"The department should also constitute a high-level enquiry committee headed by a senior IAS/IPS officer, in order to unearth the truth behind the fire incident," Naga added.
