ITANAGAR: The Lower Subansiri District students have expressed discontent over the selection of the President and General Secretary of the All Lower Subansiri District Students' Union (ALSDSU) by the All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU).
Terming the selectionas illegal, the students demanded the immediate revocation of the selection order and called for a fair and transparent election for the ALSDSU leadership.
Addressing the media at the Arunachal Press Club today, former Arunachal Students' Union Shillong (ASUS) President Habung Butung argued that the selections were made without following the due democratic process as per the AAPSU Constitution. He stated that the Constitution only allows for an interim committee in the event of a crisis or dissolution.
He claimed that the appointees were initially interim members of the district students' union but were later appointed as the permanent executive body without elections, deeming the move unconstitutional.
"The selections clearly undermine the democratic process of student elections. We want a fair election and, therefore, appeal to AAPSU to revoke the selection order against Duyu Khoda and Pura Apang as President and General Secretary of ALSDSU, respectively," he said.
Butung informed that a letter has been submitted to the Office Secretary of AAPSU regarding the matter.
Furthermore, Butung stated that the justification for allowing an interim committee to function as a permanent executive body has been challenged.
