ANJAW: A devastating fire broke out in the Hayuliang market of Anjaw district early on Thursday morning, leaving fifteen shops to ashes and causing heavy financial losses.

The fire reportedly started around 4 AM and continued raging for nearly an hour and a half before being brought under control at about 5:30 AM. There have been no reported casualties yet, but the destruction has hit local businesses quite hard.

Speaking to the media, Anjaw Superintendent of Police (SP) Rikke Kamsi stated that the exact monetary loss is still being assessed. "The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, and investigations are ongoing," he added.

Hayuliang residents claim that there is a shortage of firefighting apparatus in the region, which has made things worse. A resident who sought anonymity said that the fire brigade is based at the district headquarters in Hawai, one hour away. "By the time the fire brigade arrived, the fire had already consumed all the shops," he lamented.

However, the Indian Army took swift action to stop further destruction. "Four Army water tankers helped in containing the fire. Without their assistance, the damage could have been even worse," the resident acknowledged.

The fire has left many shop owners devastated, with their livelihoods severely impacted. Authorities are now working to determine the cause of the incident and assess the full extent of the losses.
