NAMPONG: Preparations are in full swing for the upcoming Pangsau Pass International Festival, scheduled for January 20 to 22, 2025, in Nampong, Arunachal Pradesh.

Launched in 2007 as a component of India’s Look East Policy, this festival seeks to breathe new life into the historic Stilwell Road and position Assam and the Northeast as key commercial centers in the region.

The festival had been put on hold as Myanmar witnessed increasing insurgency and political instability.

On August 9, 2022, heavily equipped ULFA(I) and NSCN(K-YA) militants attempted to penetrate Indian territory, posing a serious security threat to the country.  They were driven back by coordinated responses from the Indian forces that made the insurgents retreat.

The festival is back, declared by the government of Arunachal Pradesh, and that is a great sign of resilience and hope for the region. More than 50 villages in Nampong and the Changlang district are participating in organizing the event, showing how strong the community engagement is.

This would further strengthen cultural and economic links between India and Myanmar and again open up discussion on the opening of the Stilwell Road, a historical trade route that will further enhance connectivity in Upper Assam, major districts like Tinsukia and Dibrugarh.

It will thus serve the greater cause to see Pangsau Pass International Festival being the culmination of regional heritage that showcases peace, economic development, and cross-cultural appreciation toward an all-prosperous future.
