Itanagar: The officers and officials of Papum Pare district came together on Thursday to extend a warm and emotional farewell to deputy commissioner Jiken Bomjen, marking the conclusion of a remarkable career spanning over 37 years in public service. Widely respected for his humility and leadership, Bomjen’s tenure was celebrated for promoting open dialogue, active listening, and a spirit of teamwork across every office he served.
Appointed as Deputy Commissioner of Papum Pare in December 2023, Bomjen’s final posting was marked by major accomplishments. He successfully oversaw the 2024 parliamentary and assembly elections as both returning officer (RO) and district election officer (DEO).
He also played a crucial role in advancing dialogue and resolution efforts in the ongoing Assam-Arunachal boundary disputes through field inspections and stakeholder coordination. Another notable contribution was his effort in operationalising the Film and Television Institute (FTI) at Jote. Bomjen began his professional journey in 1987 as a junior teacher, serving at Ruksin, Lumpo, and Nari Secondary School for eight years. In 1995, he entered the Arunachal Pradesh Civil Service (APCS) as an entry-grade officer and was posted as circle officer in Sagalee, where he notably led flood relief efforts during the devastating 1998 flash flood and helped establish new circle offices at Leporiang and Toru.
Between 2000 and 2008, he served in remote and challenging areas, including Damin, Palin, Toru, Hayuliang, and Roing. After returning to Doimukh in 2008 as circle officer, he was promoted to EAC (senior grade) in 2010 and served in Rupa and later in Itanagar from 2012 to 2018.
