DIGBOI: With declared assets exceeding Rs 332 crores, the Chief Minister of the hilly state of Arunachal Pradesh Pema Khandu has been ranked as country’s second richest Chief Minister following the survey report of the Association for Democratic Reforms.
Pema Khandu, who has been the BJP Chief Minister of the state for the third consecutive term, is the son of former CM Late Dorjee Khandu. According to reports of the ADR and National Election Watch published in August 2023, Mr Khandu, the BJP CM, was declared the richest CM in the North East with assets over Rs 163 crores then and was placed as the 43rd richest legislator in the country.
While the survey has placed N Chandrababu Naidu, the CM of Andhra Pradesh with assets over Rs 931 crore, as the richest in the nation, West Bengal’s Mamata Banerjee is stated as the poorest CM with assets of just Rs 15 crores. Out of 31 Chief Ministers, Mamata Banerjee and Delhi’s Atishi are the only two women CMs highlighted in the list.
Among other notable CMs, Jammu and Kashmir’s Omar Abdullah has assets of Rs 55 lakh, while Kerala’s Pinarayi Vijayan holds assets of Rs 118 crore. The total assets of the 31 chief ministers amount to Rs 1,630 crore, with an average asset of Rs 52.59 crore per CM.
