Itanagar: The Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) traffic police launched “Mission Safe New Year Celebration- 2025” on Monday to ensure public safety during the upcoming festivities.
Dy SP Traffic, Chera Saban, addressing the media, highlighted that the campaign aims to reduce road accidents, particularly those caused by drunk driving. He emphasized that driving under the influence endangers not only the driver but also other road users. “The checking is not to harass anyone but to ensure their own safety,” said Dy SP Saban. “We urge everyone to avoid drinking and driving and celebrate responsibly.”
Over 20 locations within the ICR, identified as accident-prone areas, will have increased police presence and barricades to ensure smooth and safe traffic flow.
Naharlagun SDPO Rishi Longdo emphasized that road accidents are more frequent during the festive season. The police will conduct intensified vehicle checks, focusing on helmet usage, speed limits, and alcohol consumption.
The traffic police will distribute pamphlets on road safety rules and regulations and conduct on-the-spot alcohol testing. The police issued a control room number (112) for emergencies and provided the contact numbers of respective police stations within the ICR.
