Promotions in Assam Police: P S Mahanta, Kamrup SP promoted as Dy Inspector General of Police

Guwahati: In some top level promotions announced by the Home Department, Government of Assam on Friday, Superintendent of Police (SP), Kamrup, Partha Sarathi Mahanta has been promoted as Deputy Inspector General of Police.

Mahanta, a 2006 batch IPS officer is a recipient of the President's Police Medal for Meritorious Service. He was conferred the prestigious award in 2019 for his effective controlling of crime in Kamrup and maintaining law and order. He is known for his relentlessly work towards bridging the gap between police and public.

Besides being a meritorious police officer, Mahanta has recently penned a poem 'Mur Porichoy' as a tribute to the Assam Police personnel and constables for their service to the state. He is also the Senior Vice President of Assam Badminton Association (ABA).

Debraj Upadhyay, IPS of 2004 batch would continue as Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime and Law & Order), Guwahati until further orders. Upadhyay too has been conferred the prestigious President's Police Medal for Meritorious Service for his distinguished service. He received the award in 2019 during the 70th Republic Day from President Ramnath Kovind. During COVID, Upadhyay, along with other Assam Police officials had led teams in ensuring that people follow COVID protocol, wear masks and maintain social distance.

Sunil Kumar, IPS, First Secretary, High Commissioner of India, Abu Dhabi has been promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP).

Abhijit Bora, IPS has been promoted and would now be functioning as Joint Commissioner of Police (Administration, Security & Intelligence, Traffic), Guwahati, effective January 1, 2021 or the date of taking over charge.
