ITANAGAR: Along with the rest of the world, Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday observed the World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) with the theme 'Give Blood Share Life'.

The main function was held here was organized by the State Blood Transfusion Council (SBTC) in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) and the state branch of the Indian Red Cross Society at Rama Krishna Mission Hospital (RKMH) here.

The programme was attended by the officials of the Health & Family Welfare department led by Health & Family Welfare Secretary P Parthiban, Galo Welfare Society president among others. Addressing the event, Parthiban lauded the SBTC for improving blood centres across the state and increase in the quantum of blood collection. He stressed that more voluntary blood donations were required to meet the actual need.

Health Services Director Dr M Lego appreciated the role of voluntary blood donors and CBO's in the state. SBTC deputy director Dr Joram Khopey spoke about development and future strategies of blood transfusion services in the state. He thanked all the voluntary blood donors and blood centre staffs of the state for their dedication and contribution in saving lives. Dr Khopey also sought the cooperation and involvement of community-based organizations in blood donation drive in the state on a pan Arunachal mode.

Medical officer of blood centre at Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) Dr Tashi Paleng presented guidelines on voluntary blood donation. Galo Welfare Society president Marnya Ete spoke about the contribution of GWS in organizing and promoting voluntary blood donation and added that the organization was planning to organize such camps in the near future.

Individuals who did exemplary services in the field of voluntary blood donations within the Capital complex area were also felicitated on the occasion. Golden Donor Card was also launched and presented for the first time to individuals who have voluntarily donated blood for more than 26 times and more. Social workers Aini Taloh, Ramesh Jeke and Mepe Ete received the Golden Donor Card. A good number of voluntary donors turned up to donate blood and donated 24 units during the day.
