ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh police have arrested a drug peddler following a high-speed chase and recovered heroin weighing 12.70 grams worth Rs 30,000, a senior police officer said on Thursday.

Naharlagun SP Mihin Gambo said a police team was formed, led by Banderdewa police station officer-in-charge inspector Kipa Hamak, under the supervision of Naharlagun SDPO Rishi Longdo, following a tip-off about trafficking of drugs. As soon as the police arrived at the scene, the peddler, identified as Nur Jamal (27), fled on a motorcycle. After a chase, the police team successfully intercepted the vehicle at Jullang near here and arrested him.

During a thorough body search, police recovered 10 vials containing heroin weighing 12.70 grams worth Rs 30,000 from the peddler, the SP said. He said a case has been registered at the Banderdewa police station under Section 21(b) of the NDPS Act, and the peddler has been taken into custody.

Meanwhile, Gambo has reiterated the department’s commitment to combating the drug menace under Operation Dawn 2.0, emphasizing its dedication to curbing drug-related activities in the Itanagar Capital Region.
