ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh police have sought the help of the general public in eradicating the menace of drugs from the State.

The police announced the introduction of a 'Narcotics Helpline Cell' through which the public can provide information that may lead to the seizure of any kind of drugs and narcotic substances. Special Investigation Team (SIT) Superintendent of Police Rohit Rajbir Singh said that the Narcotics Helpline Cell at the Crime Branch police station here had been set up to receive information from across the State regarding transportation, consumption and peddling of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances through WhatsApp.

"One can send information through WhatsApp to 9362812717. The helpline will operate 24x7," the SP said. Singh said that a team of officers would be monitoring the helpline and the people can send text and voice messages or images and videos to the number.

"Any information received from the public on the number will be forwarded to the SP concerned for verification and necessary action," he said while adding that the informant's identity would be kept a secret.
