ITANAGAR: Seventy one more people tested positive for Covid-19 in Arunachal Pradesh, pushing the virus tally in the northeastern state to 53,943, a senior health official said here on Thursday.

The death toll in the frontier state remained at 271 with no casualty reported in the past 24 hours, said State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa here on Thursday.

Lower Subansiri reported the highest number of new cases at 19 followed by Tawang (17) and the Capital Complex Region at 13, the official said.

Fifty four more people recuperated from the disease on Wednesday taking the number of recoveries in the state to 53,127, Jampa said.

The recovery rate among Covid-19 patients thus far is 98.49 per cent while the positivity rate currently stands at 1.01 per cent, the SSO said.

Arunachal Pradesh currently has 545 active cases.

The Capital Complex Region, comprising Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa areas, has the highest number of active cases at 84, followed by Lower Subansiri (74), Tawang (56), West Kameng (54) and East Siang at 50 cases.

As many as 11,05,498 samples have been tested for Covid-19 so far, including 3,681 on Wednesday, Jampa added.

According to State Immunisation Officer Dr Dimong Padung, a total of 10,58,990 people have been inoculated thus far in the state.

MEET ON BOUNDARY: A district level committee meeting on Assam-Arunachal Border issues was held at West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday which was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Karma Leki.

The DC asked all the stakeholders to share positive suggestions and ideas for preparation of a roadmap to solve the border disputes by maintaining peace and tranquility with the neighboring Assam.

"Border issue is a sensitive subject and all stakeholders from the affected areas including community based organizations (CBOs), panchayat leaders, students' bodies and village members will be called in the second meeting," the DC said.

Historical background of the West Kameng district since British days was explained by Circle Oficer (Border Affairs) Kesang Wangda during the meeting through power point presentations.

Kalaktang MLA Dorjee Wangdi Karma also spoke on the occasion.

West Kameng SP, ADCs, EACs, DFO, DLRSO, ZPMs and other officials attended the meeting, an official communiqué informed here.
