ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday reported the highest single-day spike of Covid-19 cases this month, with 404 people tested positive for the infection, 264 more than the previous day, a senior health official said here. The north-eastern State reported the highest single-day spike of 266 cases on January 16 last.
With the fresh cases, the virus tally in the frontier state rose to 57,037 while, 55,279 people recuperated from the disease so far including, 84 on Monday, the official said.
Five personnel of the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and two employees of NDRF were among the fresh cases, State Surveillance Officer Dr Lobsang Jampa said. As many as seven inmates of Jullang Jail near here, also infected with the disease, he said. The death toll in the northeastern state remained at 282 as no fresh infections were reported in the past 24 hours, the official said.
The north-eastern State has been witnessing a spurt in coronavirus infections since January 4 with 1,685 new cases reported so far. Arunachal Pradesh now has 1,476 active cases. The recovery rate among coronavirus patients in the state stood at 96.92 per cent.
State Immunisation Officer Dr Dimong Padung said that a total of 15,39,873 people have been inoculated so far in the State. At least 40,961 beneficiaries in the age group of 15-18 years have been vaccinated with the first dose and 8,052 senior citizens received the booster jab.
