
ITANAGAR: The state of Arunachal Pradesh has been chosen to host the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) U-19 Championship in 2025, which is a major development for the state's sports landscape. This will be the first international football tournament to be held in Arunachal Pradesh, said the Arunachal Pradesh Football Association (APFA).
The SAFF is the governing body for football in South Asia, with seven member nations: India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. The U-19 Championship is a very important platform for developing young football talent across the region. Six teams are to compete for the championship title at the tournament, slated from May 8 to 17, 2025 at the Golden Jubilee Stadium in Yupia.
The allotment letter for the tournament was presented to the APFA honorary secretary Kipa Ajay by Anil Prabhakaran, secretary-general of the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
According to the APFA, the SAFF U-19 Championship would mark a milestone in Arunachal Pradesh. The event will upgrade its stature at the national and international level regarding football and further enhance its infrastructure in terms of footballing activities, motivating the young minds and also giving a boost to sports tourism in the state. APFA shall cooperate with AIFF and local authorities to deliver quality tournament events for all players and spectators involved.
