Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women Holds Seminar on Substance Abuse

Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) organized a state level seminar on ‘Empowering Women: Combating Substance Abuse in Northeast India’. The seminar, sponsored by National Commission for Women (NCW), New Delhi was organized on Friday at Government HS School, Sagalee, in Papum Pare district.
Addressing the event, APSCW vice chairperson Nabam Yahi Tad spoke on the impact of substance abuse in the state, an official communiqué informed here on Saturday.
While motivating the students not to indulge in drugs, she urged them to set good examples in the society as they are the future of Sagalee. She further requested the Gaon Burah to take ‘stern’ action towards the use of weeds and drugs in the area. APSCW member Kago T Yasung, in her keynote address, highlighted the substance abuse in the state and India as a whole.
Sagalee additional deputy commissioner Yame Higio, in her address, asked the students not to go for drugs or use tobacco and guthka items. She asked them to focus on their studies. She also advised the students to listen to the teaching of resource persons and members of APSCW carefully.
Sagalee ZPM Techi Serbang, while expressing his appreciation to the Commission, said that such awareness programmes should be organized in all districts and encouraged the participants to take benefit of the seminar.
APSCW member Maya Pulu elaborated on substance abuse and its impact on health, family and society. Speaking as a resource person, Sagalee MO (Ayush) Dr Techi Jama elaborated on mental health and its impact on career, family and society. Another resource person, Dr Subham Singh from TRIHMS, Naharlagun spoke on life skills and shared education on drugs. The programme was attended by Ngurang Nama, member APSCW, staff and more than 150 participants including principal, teachers and students.
