ITANAGAR: A tragic accident at a construction site in Doni Colony, Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, left two laborers dead and two more injured. All four individuals belonged to Assam.

The accident happened when the workers were digging to make a retaining wall. The earth of the surrounding area collapsed suddenly, trapping them under the debris. According to local reports, the victims were identified as Jahan Hemran (45) and Vijay Bag (46) from Dhekiajuli, Assam.

The injured, Ganesh Oran and Joseph Dopnu were rescued and admitted to Rama Krishna Mission Hospital for treatment.

The rescue operation was led by a police officer named Randhir Kumar Jha in coordination with the National Disaster Response Force and local police. The operation lasted for five hours, from 4 PM to 9 PM. Two workers could not be rescued.

A case of unnatural death has been registered at Itanagar Police Station to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collapse.

The construction site owner and Seppa resident Takar Yangda said the retaining wall was being constructed to prevent landslides during the summer monsoon season on his land. Contractor Zahir Hussain said that six laborers were taken from Assam and four were assigned to the construction at Doni Colony.

This tragic incident puts a greater emphasis on strengthening safety protocols at construction sites, especially in landslide and soil instability-prone regions.
