Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Agriculture Minister Gabriel D Wangsu has emphasized the vital role of agriculture in India’s economy, which contributes approximately 17-18 percent to the GDP and sustains the livelihoods of over half the rural population.
Participating at Agrovision-2024 at Nagpur in Maharashtra on Monday, the minister highlighted India’s standing as the second-largest producer of fruits and vegetables, stressing the potential for boosting agri-exports and expanding food processing industries, an official communiqué informed here on Tuesday.
“If Arunachal and Maharashtra work together in agricultural production, we can grow in unison, contributing to the nation’s progress,” he said. Drawing from Maharashtra’s successful horticulture sector, Wangsu praised its achievements in farming, processing, and marketing, noting it as a valuable model for other states. He described Agrovision as an ideal platform for exchanging knowledge and technologies, aligning with the national objective of doubling farmers’ income. Wangsu also commended Nagpur’s legacy as the “Orange City” and its significant contribution to citrus production, along with the innovative research conducted at the Central Citrus Research Institute. The minister invited attendees to explore Arunachal’s unique agricultural offerings, also highlighting the stall dedicated to the state, which showcased its kiwi products. “This is indeed a significant achievement, a platform to promote innovative ideas and collaborations. I am confident the insights shared here will benefit the entire nation,” he remarked. Wangsu concluded by reiterating the importance of collaboration between Arunachal and Maharashtra in agricultural production, expressing optimism about the synergy between the two states in advancing the country’s agricultural future.
