NAHARLAGUN: Three students of a private school lost their lives, and three others sustained injuries when an overhead water tank collapsed and fell on them in Naharlagun, Arunachal Pradesh, on Saturday, according to police reports.

The incident occurred at St. Alphonsa School in Model Village, where students were playing when the tank collapsed, injuring six of them, according to Naharlagun Superintendent of Police Mihin Gambo.

According to the SP, "All the injured were rushed to the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS), Naharlagun, where three were declared dead. A post-mortem is currently underway."

The police stated that the deceased were Class 9 students, while the injured were from Classes 6 and 7. The police have detained the school principal, the owner, and four staff members for questioning.

The SP added, "Preliminary investigations suggest that the water tank may have exceeded its capacity. However, we are probing the matter further to determine the exact cause."

Meanwhile, earlier this week, a tragic incident at a flyover construction site in Naharlagun claimed the life of a 45-year-old construction worker from Assam, Jangbir Biswakarma. The worker fell into a 30-foot-deep excavation near the ABC Restaurant on the Naharlagun highway, allegedly due to negligence by the subcontractor firm, TK Engineering Consortium Pvt. Ltd.

Police recovered Biswakarma's body from the site early this morning and sent it to the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) for a post-mortem examination to determine the precise cause of death.
